Carroll Walker

SD91 School Trustee Candidate

My name is Carroll Walker. I was born in Creston, B.C. and was raised in Creston and the

Kootenay area. I had different occupations while at Creston which included working at the local saw mill and hay, grain and dairy farms. I also worked for SD 86 as a spare school bus driver.

During my time at Creston I was involved in the Creston Valley Rod and Gun Club, sitting on different committees’ and I was Chair of one of them.

I moved to Vanderhoof with my wife and five children in 1996. We raised our family here in Vanderhoof with all our children attending school in SD91. My wife and I have operated and grown our cattle ranch as well as a trucking business over the last 26 years.

I now have grandchildren attending school in SD91. I have been involved in and Chair of the worship committee for the church we attend in Vanderhoof.

Issues SD91

I am very concerned about the education students are receiving in SD91. The current administration no longer supports the values of the parents but, rather seeks to change them.

There is a disconnection between the managers of SD91 and the parents of the students in this district. The view that parents “need to be better educated” on issues of disagreement, demonstrates the unwillingness of the administration to listen to the concerns parents are expressing.

As a School Board Trustee, I will listen to concerns of the parents in balance with the safety and wellbeing of all students. The values of parents must be reflected in the school system as well as a safe environment for all students.
